EDX8000T  to Testing of Thickness and Composition of Zinc-Nickel Alloy Coatings

A zincnickel alloy coating is a binary alloy protective layer electroplated on steel substrates. The mainstream nickel content in industrial applications ranges from 12% to 15%. Combining the sacrificial anode protection of zinc and the dense physical barrier effect of nickel, the coating delivers excellent comprehensive protective performance. Its corrosion resistance is 5 to 10 times higher than that of conventional pure zinc coatings, and the anti-rust performance is significantly improved after passivation and sealing treatment. Featuring a dense structure and low porosity, the coating possesses outstanding hardness and therml stability, withstanding operating temperatures up to 200°C. It also exhibits superior low hydrogen embrittlement properties, making it suitable for highstrength steel, springs, precision fasteners and other highend workpieces. Adopting the mainstream alkaline zincate electropating process, the coating offers uniform thickness and strong adhesion, and is available in black, iridescent, army green and other surface finishes. Widely applied in automotive parts, rail transit, military equipment and precision hardware, it serves as a highquality and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional zinc and cadmium plating.

The Infys EDX8000T coating thickness gauge is a professional testing device dedicated to zinc-nickel alloy coating inspection. It adopts X-ray fluorescence (XRF) detection principle: low-energy Xrays are irradiated onto the sample, and the thickness and elemental composition of the coating are accurately calculated by detecting the intensity of secondary Xrays reflected from the sample surface. The noncontact testing process causes no damage or contamination to test samples. A single test cycle takes only 10 to 30 seconds, enabling efficient and accurate analysis of the thickness as well as zinc and nickel content of zincnickel alloy coatings.

I. Core Features of EDX8000T Coating Thickness Gauge

Designed with an innovative downward integrated structure, the instrument requires no sample pre-treatment and supports direct testing. Equipped with a built-in high-definition CCD camera, it enables precise surface observation and micro-area positioning, effectively avoiding sample contamination and damage caused by contact measurement. Integrated with a professional distance correction algorithm, it achieves high-precision testing on irregular workpieces with concave-convex surfaces, threads and curved surfaces. The device is equipped with multiple sets of standard samples for calibration of coating thickness measurement and composition analysis. It supports elemental detection from Magnesium (Mg) to Uranium (U) in the periodic table. Fitted with a Si-PIN detector, it provides a wide counting range and excellent energy resolution. Furthermore, it supports automatic switching of collimators and filters (0.15mm, 0.2mm, 0.3mm) to adapt to diverse coating testing scenarios of different sizes and working conditions.

II. Typical Application Fields

1. Coating Thickness Analysis

It is applicable to the testing of zinc-nickel anti-corrosion coatings on steel, decorative chromium coatings on plastic products, coatings on rigid and flexible PCB boards, contact surface coatings of electrical plugs and contacts, and precious metal coatings such as rhodium on gold substrates. It also supports auxiliary analysis of electroplating solution components, fully meeting the coating thickness testing requirements of electroplating, electronic and electrical, and decorative hardware industries.

2. Material Composition Analysis

In addition to the composition detection of zinc-nickel alloy coatings, the instrument can analyze functional coatings in the electronics and semiconductor industries, as well as hard material coatings including CrN, TiN and TiCN, covering a wide range of industrial material detection scenarios.
